Tomorrowland is a 2015 American science-fiction adventure film directed by Brad Bird and written by Bird and Damon Lindelof. The film stars George Clooney, Hugh Laurie, Britt Robertson and Raffey Cassidy. Tomorrowland received mixed reviews from critics and grossed $209 million worldwide against its $190 million production budget, but succeeded commercially at the box office. The film was nominated for Best Makeup at the 87th Academy Awards for extensive use of practical effects on some of the actors. In 2054, an inventor named Frank Walker (George Clooney) travels with his daughter Casey (Britt Robertson) on a flight to Tomorrowland. He explains that Tomorrowland is a place of optimistic visions where the best scientists of the world work together to improve life for all humanity. The flight arrives at Tomorrowland's spaceport, where Walker attempts to meet with Casey’s estranged father Henry (Hugh Laurie), but fails. While waiting for Henry, they are invited to visit the exclusive Club Sunshine by Olivia Walton (Raffey Cassidy), who describes what Tomorrowland is like inside. They are greeted by Casey's step-grandma Dotty (Meryl Streep), who tells them they can expect to experience Tomorrowland during their stay. Henry shows his daughter photographs that he had taken in the past, which reveal that he has been to Tomorrowland. After taking her to see Casey at work, Henry asks his daughter if she would like to join him, but she refuses. Later that night, Walker tells Casey about Tomorrowland’s “garden of discovery”, which is a place where dreams come true. When he attempts to show her the pictures of Tomorrowland, they are attacked by hired goons who tie up both Henry and Walker. When Casey attempts to escape, she is chased into the woods by the goons. There, she stumbles into a hidden path that leads to Tomorrowland, where she meets Athena (Raffey Cassidy). Athena explains that Tomorrowland is a land of optimism and innovation. Casey takes her back to the compound, where Henry and Walker are tied up. Henry shows his daughter images of Tomorrowland in his time period. Walker decides to show her the jetpack he has invented for her 13th birthday. They fly off in their escape pod just after Athena breaks them out of their restraints using superhuman strength. They come upon a massive train station, which Athena explains is called the Hub. Athena hops on board and the group, including the passengers Al (Thomas Robinson), Peter (Dennis Quaid), and Alice (Cindey Andrews), watch as the train pulls out of Tomorrowland. The next morning, Casey asks her father and step-grandma if they would like to go back home with them. They both refuse, but then they notice that Casey's suitcase has been replaced with one from the year 2054 1989.
